Domestic Violence is a serious social problem in our world today, every year 5.3 million Women a year are abused; seventy-three percent of all domestic violence incidents go unreported. Every year 8.8 million children witness domestic violence and of those children those that are children of an abused parent are twice as likely to be abused themselves.
There is an astounding $4.1 million dollars is spent yearly on medical and mental health care as a direct result of domestic violence and every year there are 8 million workdays lost by domestic violence victims each year, that is the equivalent of 32,000 full-time jobs.
Around the world, at least one in every three women has been beaten, coerced into sex or otherwise abused during her lifetime.
Join us Thursday March 27th at 12pm cst /1pm est for a special Journey to Self. Guests Carrie Lower and Diane Tegarden will be joining me as they share their own personal experience of being in and getting out of abusive relationships. Advocate Jane McCauley from the YWCA in Janesville, WI, will also be joining us to help us discuss the facts of domestic violence and how women can get themselves and their children out of an abusive home.
