Posted on June 26th, 2008 by Tonya
Today Rebekkah White and I concluded our series on Taking Care of Ill and Aging Family Members. I shared some of the important tips that I have learned over the last 6 years of taking care of my father with Vascular Dementia.
Tips for Caregivers:
- Find the right doctor. Make sure that you are working with a doctor that you feel comfortable with and that you feel is listening to you.
- Check out Community Resources. There are often county resources that can help you find help, respite, and other programs that can help you and your family.
- TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF. As a caregiver it is important that you take care of yourself, find support groups to help with your emotional state, hire help and use respite programs to give yourself a break, and most importantly don’t ignore your physical needs make sure that you get the support you need, enough sleep, and nutrition! YOU ARE IMPORTANT!!
